I’d like to think I’m an interview professional. I’ve gone on tons of job interviews. I have also interviewed my fair share of candidates. I know the ins & outs along with the do’s and don’ts for interview prep and post-interview procedures. From my experiences, I’ve learned best techniques for conducting phone, video and in-person interviews.
From what to wear and what time to arrive, it’s my desire to provide helpful tips!
Phone Interview
Choose a quiet location to speak with the interviewer.
Ensure your phone is fully charged and you have good reception.
Place your resume in front of you to refer back to for any questions or experience discussed.
Have a notebook to take any applicable notes.
Thank them for their time and confirm you have their contact information.
Send a thank you email within 24 hours.
Video Chat Interview
Choose a quiet and well lit location to speak with the interviewer.
Dress professionally. While you may be at home, you’re still on camera so rocking your pajamas aren’t a good idea.
Ensure your background is neat and does not contain distracting materials.
Place your resume in front of you to refer back to for any questions or experience discussed (be sure not to stare at it as you are on camera).
Thank them for their time and confirm you have their contact information.
Send a thank you email within 24 hours.
In-Person Interview
Dress professionally. Get your clothes out the day before. Ensure they are clean and neat.
Have copies of your resume with you. The interviewer may ask for a copy and it’s good to be prepared.
Ask questions! It’s always good to show further interest in the role, team, and organization by asking questions. Have a set of questions prepared, but also think of some based on what was discussed in the interview.
Thank them for their time and request a business card.
Send a thank you email within 24 hours.
